Stepping into Simplicity:

What Stays, What Goes, What Needs to Be Added.
Debra Evans (author of more than 15 books)
March 24, 2012
10:00 a.m. - noon
$5 for bunch, but please do not let money stop you from joining us!
Come meet other amazing women, enjoy a yummy breakfast, and soak up great teaching & rich discussion.

When Jesus went to dinner at Martha and Mary’s home, the two sisters’ couldn’t have been more different in the way they responded to His presence. One served and did all the work by herself, while the other sat and simply listened. Yet, of these two exceptional sisters, Christ commended the student/listener rather than the servant/worker. Why?

Through more deeply delving into and discussing this revealing sibling story, author Debra Evans will show us how stepping into simplicity requires honestly examining our hearts and defining the boundary lines that shape our lives.  "One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it's the main course, and won't be taken from her."  Luke 10:42 MSG

Starting This Sunday: How BIG Is Your GOD? | Feb 12th-Mar 4th

Posted by Amber Andrade

There’s a quote that says, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”  Those thoughts influence what we think about everything else and how we experience life. Answering the big who and why and if questions about God and his existence is one of the strongest drives we have as humans. Clues are all around us in nature, in people, in our relationships and our own emotions. Join us as we open our eyes and use our minds to uncover the clues that point to a God you would love to know.

Foundation Communities - Monthly Supper Club - Tues Jan. 10th

6:00 pm Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Skyline Terrace – 1212 W Ben White Blvd Austin TX 78704 (near Bannister Rd)

0
Please JOIN US Tues January 10 for our first Foundation Communities dinner of 2012!

Feeling called to serve this year? This is a fantastic way to serve those in your community and meet Gateway folks at the same time. Join us any month to try it out - or encourage your small group to host a meal.

Every 2nd Tuesday of the month,  we host a supper club for the residents at Skyline Terrace. We’d like for small groups to “sponsor” each month so different groups have the opportunity to serve, however there will be some regulars there each month for continuity and the dinners are open to all Gateway’ers to join.

2012 DATES:

  • Tues Jan 10 - Jennifer Loftis's small group
  • Tues Feb 14 - NEED A SMALL GROUP TO HOST - let's make it a special Valentine's Day for the residents!
  • Tues March 13 - NEED A SMALL GROUP TO HOST

Why Foundation Communities?

They are a wonderful organization that provides high-quality affordable housing that enables families and individuals with low incomes to permanently improve their educational and economic standing.  FC surrounds their residents with resources and tools to get back on their feet; from free day care at some locations to computer labs, ESL classes and access to free tax preparation.

In the process of hosting our first Supper Club in Dec 2010, we learned that it’s not as hard as we thought to make a hot and healthy meal for a large crowd. We can do it, with a smile, and have enough time to mingle, and get to know each other. Learn more about FC: http://www.foundcom.org

For more information on how you and your small group can help out - contact Juanita Lee - juanitapareja@gmail.com or 512.788.4604. Thank you!

Women's Breakfast - Jan. 21st

9:00 am Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Karin Harper's 2nd floor party room

0

Hey Ladies,

Come join us for a time of connection and encouragement over a yummy breakfast.  We'll have a chance to get to know each other and hear an interactive talk by Sherilyn Villareal entitled "The Ups and Downs of the Highs and Lows of Life".

Here's a breif description of what Sherilyn will share with us...

Suffering or Prosperity? If offered both, which would you choose? We typically think of Suffering as something to be avoided at all cost and Prosperity as something to run hard after - as though suffering were all bad and prosperity all good. From a practical standpoint, this makes a ton of sense. But spiritually speaking, both seasons actually have their unique challenges, and both have their unique opportunities.  In this talk, we’ll explore the ups and downs of the highs and lows of life and consider insights about avoiding common pitfalls of each.

RSVP by clicking "attend" or email Sandra Salas at Sandra.Salas@hotmail.com

Epicenter South Campus 2011

Posted by Amber Andrade

What is epicenter?
Epicenter is an opportunity to increase our church’s impact – locally and globally –
by giving above and beyond your regular monthly giving.

Why epicenter?
We want to meet people with the love of Christ right where they are – your
neighbor struggling in a bad marriage, your co-worker battling addiction, your
brother questioning faith, as well as orphans in India and earthquake victims in
Haiti. We believe transformation happens in an authentic relationship with God
while in community with others. We have  built networks and created partnerships in order to meet the physical and spiritual needs of those here in Austin, as well as those around the world. The Epicenter initiative is an opportunity for you to help increase our impact.

How will my gift make a difference?
In addition to expanding our epicenters of impact through Networks here in South Austin, South Campus is taking on its own global epicenter impact. We have partnered with Living Waters International to bring a clean water drinking well to the country of Haiti. The January 2010 earthquake damaged many water wells and people all over the country suffer from diseases brought on through impure drinking water. Tracy McGinty and Bruce Gilson along with 12 other Southies will be going to Haiti in February to establish a water well in the Cap Haitian area. This is an opportunity to bring clean water to a community that is in desperate need. What is the goal? The total project cost nearly $30,000 and we believe that together South Campus can build this well.  Funds raised through Epicenter this year will also continue to help us expand Networks in South Austin.

What is the goal?
The total project cost nearly $30,000 and we believe that together South Campus can build this well. Funds raised through Epicenter this year will also continue to help us expand Networks in South Austin.

How do I give?
First, we ask that you pray and ask God how He would have you be involved in this Epicenter initiative

  • If you choose to then give by check, please write “Epicenter South” on the memo line.
  • If you choose to give online, click the “contribute” button in the very top right corner of www.GatewayChurch.com then (after you login to F1) choose Epicenter South in the dropdown box next to “fund”
  • If you want to give cash in the offering bucket, we ask you to use a giving envelope available in the lobby and write “Epicenter South” on the outside of the envelope.

This Sunday Begins A New Series...Unlikely Heroes

Posted by Amber Andrade

History creates caricature legends. When we look past the veneer of the story – the story that makes people “go down in history”– we see that most “heroes” are no different than you or me. They had no superpowers, but they did have character that enabled them to make profound choices in challenging moments. We’re getting to know some unlikely heroes of ancient times that will inspire us to become the heroes of our generation. Join us at South campus on Sunday mornings at 9:45am or 11:30am.

Turkey Creek Dog-Friendly Hike

9:00 am Saturday, November 05, 2011

0

Hike organized by Gina Wood....
Calling all hikers...and dogs!   Come join me for a DOG-friendly hike on Saturday, November 5th at the Turkey Creek Nature Trail.  This hike is open to anyone with or without a dog.

This will be the first of monthly dog-friendly hikes in and around the Austin area and Hill Country.  With the holidays around the corner, November is filling up fast, so I'll give more advance notice in the future.  Since this is kind of last minute, we'll start with a local hike.

Turkey Creek is located off of City Park Road...it's about a mile before the entrance to Emma Long Park on Lake Austin.  TC is an official off leash dog trail, so whether or not you bring dog..you will see lots of dogs of all shapes and sizes.   Parts of the trail are "easy" and a couple of parts are "moderate".  There's a couple of switch backs and lots of dry creek crossings.  Since there isn't much water right now, bring plenty of water to help your pup stay cool.  Looks like the temps will be in the low 80's on the 5th.   The park rangers ask that if your dog does not do well off leash then keep them on a long lead.  The beginning of the trail head is close to City Park road so keeping your dog on a leash until we get through that is a good idea.

Date:  Saturday, 11/5
Time:  Meet at the trail head at 9AM
Carpooling from my place:  Meet at 8:30AM (I live off of City Park/360)
What to wear:  Sturdy walking/hiking shoes
Entrance & Parking fees:  FREE
How do spot me at the trail head:  I will be with the cute blond...my Shetland Sheep Dog...AKA - miniature Lassie

Please let me know by early Saturday if you will be joining us so we can look for you at the trail head or at my place.  Texting will be best if you try to contact me on Saturday.
